COSTS AND PROCESS

Navigating the financial and clinical steps of surgery can feel overwhelming. Our team is committed to providing clear and transparent information so you can make an informed decision about your health.

The Patient Journey

Your transformation is a structured process designed to ensure you are prepared for a successful outcome.

Initial Consultation

Meet with your surgeon to discuss your health history, goals, and suitable surgical options.

Multidisciplinary Assessment

Consultations with our Senior Dietitian and the extended care team to create your personalised care plan.

The Procedure

If a decision made to proceed with surgery, our surgery is performed at an accredited private hospital by our expert surgical and anaesthetic team.

The MBSA Follow-Up Program

You begin your two-year follow-up schedule—the most critical phase for long-term health and weight maintenance.

Understanding Your Costs

Understanding Your Costs 1 scaled

Because every patient’s medical needs and insurance status are different, we provide a detailed cost break-down following your initial consultation. This outlines all anticipated out-of-pocket expenses specific to your procedure.

Medicare and Bulk Billing

Bulk Billed Follow-Up:

As part of our commitment to your long-term health, all scheduled follow-up consultations with your surgeon within our two-year program are bulk billed for Medicare-eligible patients. This ensures you have ongoing access to expert care with no out-of-pocket costs for these specific appointments.

Patients with Private Health Insurance (PHI)

Bariatric surgery is a clinical necessity, not a cosmetic procedure. If your PHI policy includes weight loss surgery (typically “Gold” tier), your cover generally includes:

Hospital Costs:

Accommodation, theatre fees, and in-hospital care are largely covered by your insurer.

Medical Gap:

You will typically pay a "gap" fee for the surgeon, assistant surgeon, and anaesthetist.

Program Fee:

There is an out-of-pocket fee for our comprehensive bariatric support program, which covers your long-term follow-up and multidisciplinary care.

Self-Funded Patients (Uninsured)

If you do not have private health insurance, or if your current policy does not cover weight loss surgery, you can still access our comprehensive program.

Out-of-Pocket Costs:

You will be responsible for self-funding the hospital stay, theatre fees, and medical specialist fees.

Individualised Estimates:

Your final costs will be individualised based on the specific hospital used and the type of procedure required.

Funding Options

We understand that surgery is a significant investment. Various medical financing options and payment plans may be available to help manage the costs over time. Please discuss these with the surgeon during your consultation.

Why the MBSA Program Matters

We believe that surgery is simply the “tool,” while the follow-up is the “work.” Our structured two-year program is designed to give you the highest chance of maintaining your results. By providing bulk-billed follow-up reviews and ongoing access to our bariatric dietitian, we ensure you are never alone on your journey to better health.
